Usage of Internet Technologies for Malaysian SMEs in Supply Chain Management

There is no doubt that any emerging technology will help to change the way a business is conducted. This is true for the emergence of the Internet or better know as World Wide Web. Big corporations have the means in term of funds and man power to integrate their business systems with the Internet. However, small and medium industry companies (SMEs) which still require the funding of local government might not have the luxury to do so.

For any companies, a truly integrated supply chain management system from the vendors all the way to the customers is vital. There are a lot of factors other than mentioned above for SMEs not to fully adopt an online supply chain management (SCM). Both external factors and internal factors do influence a company in not having a fully integrating supply chain management system. A study will be conducted in determining the utilization of Internet in the various areas of a supply chain management for SMEs in Malaysia. A framework will be devised for SMEs to successfully migrate their various SCM areas into the Internet.
