5. Dual Model Biometric System for Network Authentication

Sundar Raj Senthil Kumar and Chandran Jayanthi

Nowadays most of the people prefer to use network platform especially in trading, shopping, online banking etc because of saving time, cost etc. However security is the major issue when we are moving from conventional platform to network platform because there is no regulations or control to monitor or tracking the above said problem.

Currently we have only one method, which is available in network security, is username and password. There is one advantage while using this current method is easy to remember but there are lot of disadvantages such as, misuse the password, write them in a piece of paper, forget the password etc. The risk of attacks from criminals is very high with the increased population rate when accessing the networks. So the alternative approach for traditional authentication techniques is the Biometrics which is using a person’s physiological and behavioral characteristics to decide whether the applicant is the one that he claims to be. Here there is no need to remember password and also the most important issue is almost unbreakable. In this paper, we propose a Dual-model biometric authentication consists of voice recognition and face recognition combined together to provide highly reliable, secure, accurate and low cost, use-friendly system. Each part of this system and its function will be discussed at the beginning and the important application of the system, how this system is suitable for network authentication will be discussed at the end of this paper.
